Melissa with Jack was pretty lovelorn and blind. I found her annoying then. I thought Melissa/Emilio was crazy.
Quietly they go, the intelligent, the witty, the brave.
I know. But I do not approve. And I am not resigned. Millay |

Oh yeah, Melissa and Emilio was a case of 'huh? what are they THINKING?' But Emilio with anyone was a mystery to me. I found nothing attractive about him physically or mentally. He had more chemistry with Jack than he did with any of the females on the show.

Plimothrock wrote: I agree about Emilio's appeal......there was none! And the pairing of him with Melissa was odd, BUT, I could believe it, seeing as her appeal was a big zero, too. For every pot there is a lid, I suppose. But, sorry, I'm not "leaving the light on" for either of them!!

Good one, Chris! I do have to say, though, that although I didn't care for Emilio, Billy H. did a fantastic job of playing him. His comedic delivery in scenes with Matt were right on the money, and I can't imagine anyone else playing the part.

Plimothrock wrote: Chris and Eileen you both cracked me up with your replies about Emilio and Melissa. As far "leaving the light on" you may find at least in the
DVD's I have done that I actually yanked the song and cut to the next scene rather than play it over and over. I think I must have got over hearing it and
the "relationship" for want of a better word, was a real struggle for both actors, I never felt any kind of spark at all not even a little flick on
the flint!!!!
Thank you Shari for my Banner!!! How lucky I am to have such a clever friend!!!! |

For every pot there is a lid, I suppose. But, sorry, I'm not "leaving the light on" for either of them!! Oh, Chris, you made me laugh out loud. That song got old FAST. I always wondered if Jack singing it in the
warehouse was in the script or just something Matt came up with. Same as when Jack was trying to get Jennifer a promotion and Arnie Leonard asked him if he
always gets what he wants and he says, "Like the song goes, 'maybe this time.'" I always wondered if that was a Matt-lib. As for Melissa, I
agree that I wanted to hurt her when she was so mean to Jack, but since we got a lot of p-e-r-f-e-c-t scenes out of it, I can't complain too much.

I have to agree with Eileen that Billy H. did a great job with Emilio during the comedic triangle before the serious one kicked off. Watching those clips, I realized why Emilio didn't work for me. He was at his most interesting during his bodyguarding days for Jack. He was also more like a sitcom character than a soap opera character. Matt's Jack, on the other hand, was able to guide seamlessly from conniving bastard to lost man to wry & physical comedian to pining lover. Emilio made an almost perfect buffoon but he wasn't as convincing playing the other roles given to him. It also didn't help matters that there was no romantic chemistry between Melissa and Emilio. The actors did their best but they just couldn't quite overcome the obviousness that their relationship was more of a convenience factor to cleanly remove Emilio's presence away from J&J when the time came than something organic between the characters. I also disliked Melissa's constant interruptions. I think it was more effective when the "dads" did it as in the scene right before Emilio's second proposal. Jack was about to chase after Jennifer when they showed up and he tried to beat them off with his jacket. ![]() |

I have to agree that the lyrical references HAD to be Matt ad libs. That's just too funny!
IrlandesaK- I think you hit the nail on the head when you said Emilio was more of a comedic actor than a soap opera one, although I do think he held his own in the comedic scenes with Matt. I still vaguely remember watching him on Fame. LOL I also agree that the actors tried hard, but that Emilio and Melissa were most definitely just thrown together out of convenience. I actually always felt that same way about Frankie and Eve and even Kayla and Shane. |

I think that Billy is a good actor. He was convincing as Emilio, but Emilio was often drawn as a caricature. His scenes with Matt were awesome.
Frankie and Eve was very contrived. The best parts were when Eve was angry at him. One time she called him self righteous. Right on! |
