Chapter 104: Hospital Benefit: Jack and Jennifer’s Musical Exchange Part 3: Saturday, December 17, 2011.
Jack sensed his emotions pooling.
Keeping a firm hold of Jennifer in his arms, he tightly pressed his lips together before he slowly opened them again to release words from his mouth.
“Stay with me...” he said, as he eased out a long breath.
Hearing the soft undertone of Jack’s voice, Jennifer felt a shiver race up her spine.
Warming her, he bent in a little closer and whispered, “Dance with me... ”
Jennifer knew Jack would never make her stay with him if she did not want to.
His words were spoken as statements... not questions, nor were they demands.
Jack’s voice was layered. And Jennifer knew he was doing his best to hide his desperation, as he nervously waited for her to give him some sort of a response, but unfortunately she could not.
Lost in a rare moment, her senses screamed for help.
Being with him like this had fully numbed her thoughts and she was stuck on Jack’s words, ‘Stay with me’.
Actually, they were the only words she could remember him saying.
So she stayed.
Curious to hear what song would play next, it did not really matter to her.
Jennifer just wanted to be with Jack.
And so doing the only thing she could will herself do.... still at lost for words, she was thankful her body did not betray her.
Jennifer sighed heavily and gently squeezed Jack’s hand in reply.
When he felt this, the tiny pressure of her hand in his, Jack was overcome with new emotions... because he knew it was her acceptance of more than just a dance.
It was the ultimate truth.
And finally, the long-sitting butterflies in his stomach slowly started to dissipate, replaced by a sense of calm that began to fill him.
Realizing what was....
Releasing another long breath...
Jack could hardly believe Jennifer was still in his embrace and that their bodies were standing so close to one another.
It immediately stirred up a physical response he desperately struggled to conceal.
And with sheer determination to hold his ground and stay on course so he could read her eyes and see what her reaction would be to the words his song was set to reveal, Jack forced himself to focus.
Distancing himself a little, he let cool air slide in between them, and Jennifer knew the cue.
Without hesitance, she looked up at Jack, knowing it was what he wanted; what he was asking for.
In turn, Jack jetted his tongue over his lips, and looked down lovingly at Jennifer’s face. The corners of his lips tilted upwards in a smile that made her responded with a similar, nervous-type grin.
Bracing himself to hear the words that were about to play, Jack wanted Jennifer to know the meaning of the lyrics were true, and coming from his heart.
And as the beat of the music was set to begin, Jack swallowed hard.
He held Jennifer’s gaze for what felt like an eternity and an intense moment was shared between them, despite the vast sea of people who surrounded them.
It was a moment long, long enough for Jennifer to see the love that was in Jack’s heart, as she let him see the same reflected in hers.
Enjoying the moment...
Oblivious to everything and to everyone, Jack simply weakened and pulled Jennifer closer to him, as the song began to play.
The Song: Enrique Iglesias’ - “Let Me Be Your Hero”
Instantly, both felt a nervous energy develop between them.
Barely dancing, standing face to face, with their noses almost touching, Jack and Jennifer locked eyes before closing them, as they comfortably let themselves get lost in a little world all of their own.
Not looking at her made it easier, but Jack’s voice still sounded scratchy with raw emotion when he began to sing along to the lyrics.
Would you dance
If asked you to dance?
Surprised to hear this, to hear Jack’s voice singing in her ear, Jennifer’s heart skipped a beat.
Her eyes watered instantly.
She didn’t expect it...
And in reaction, she felt her chest constrict before she was able to catch her breath, and reply to him, uttering a soft spoken, ‘yes.’
Floored by her admission, tightening his grip, Jack continued.... his voice low and raspy.
Would you run,
and never look back?
At hearing these words, Jennifer’s eyes flew open. She was taken off guard to see Jack staring back down at her. Caught in the moment, Jennifer shamefully looked away, pained by the truth of questions that struck deep.
She had to fight her way back from her biting guilt. ¸
She knew Jack deserved an answer, so she held strong, holding onto Jack even more so, before she softly told him, ‘no.’
Seeing that he had hit a cord inside her...
Jack continued with his emotions running wild...
Holding his eyes on hers, he desperately sought out more of the truth.
Would you cry, if you saw me crying?
And would you save my soul, tonight?
Moved beyond words, Jennifer’s heart pounded heavily in her chest.
Forced to close her eyes again, she shifted to rest her cheek against Jack’s chest.
And in reaction, feeling Jennifer resting against him, Jack closed his eyes again, too
Jennifer stayed there for a long moment, listening to his heart beat.... taking it all in.
Collecting her emotions... collecting her thoughts...
The truth was extremely difficult to process.
Holding strong, Jack tried hard not to let Jennifer’s shuddering body affect him.
Jennifer had waited so long to be honest with Jack, she wanted to be honest with herself, and so she immediately raised up on her tippy toes and replied with two more definitive, yeses, whispering ‘yes and yes,’ in his ear... making him grow weak... as she heard him let out a gasp of emotion he could no longer contain.
Knowing he was on the right track, that Jennifer had just confessed the truth, Jack suddenly realized the words of this song were too much for her... as they were for him, but he stayed on course, desperate to press her for more.
And it continued by him feeling her cling to him with needy desire, so he did the same.
Locked in each other’s arms, both of them could feel it.
There was no denying what was between them.
Overwhelmed with what was transpiring, Jack wanted to draw himself back from Jennifer again, to look deeply into her eyes, but he did not, he could not do it.
He gulped hard... surprised he could suddenly feel again.
Jack felt whole...
And in that moment, he realized... Jennifer was his whole.
She had always been... but he had not felt this way in a very long time.
Simultaneously opening their eyes to look at one another again, they opened and offered up their hearts, too.
Jack saw raw emotions arise from inside Jennifer, and she saw the same from him.
Moved by the words and sentiment of Jack’s song choice.... coupled with seeing intense love reflected in his eyes... Jennifer could almost see right through him.
And without blinking, she simply watched him stare at her... and silently begged him to looking deeply inside of her... to see that her soul was saying the same thing.
And he did....
Holding her, feeling her heart beat in his hands, Jack no longer feeling lost, and so he stayed on course with the song lyrics.
Knowing exactly what he was doing....
Jack intentionally leaned in close, coming short, barely touching her lips with his.
Would you tremble, if I touched your lips?
Looking at him in awe...
Inciting a reaction, as he expected he would, he could literally feel Jennifer’s heart breaking.
And as difficult as it was for him to admit to the truth, Jack took control.
Comforting her, feeling her lips quiver at the sheer power of his feather-light kiss, he knew he made her desires for him grow to new heights.
Hovering over her lips....
Wanting to indulge in what being offered, Jennifer had to admit to herself and to Jack that she wanted more. So unwavering, breathing in several controlled breaths, Jennifer licked her lips in great anticipation.
Pulling herself back from him a little further to un-blur her vision, Jennifer stared solidly into Jack’s now misty, blue eyes, and silently begged him for a real, true, kiss this time.
At seeing this, Jack’s heart pumped fiercely... as he read Jennifer’s cues.
It was more than he expected....
More than he ever thought he deserved.
But it was what he wanted.
And in that moment, Jack knew what he was feeling was real, and he was certain of what he saw... Jack knew he was not wrong.
Jennifer was finally ready to re-welcome him home.
He could sense her burning desire for his long-awaited and tender loving kiss.
Slowly preparing to make his move...
Jack still felt desperate to know more of the truth.
And in doing so, he opened up, wanting Jennifer to know his truth...
Holding her tightly, Jack wanted her to feel; to feel his love, set deeply in his core.
It was time.
Jack wanted Jennifer to know he was experiencing the same intense feelings she was.... feelings that were now overriding his every sane thought.
And she did.
Still both ignoring the crowd and the grandeur of the grand ballroom that surrounded them, nothing else mattered to either of them.
Feeling what he was feeling, Jack simply yearned to be with Jennifer with every fiber of his being. And when she shivered in arms again, he didn’t second guess himself.
Pulling her close... their bodies meeting again, it acknowledged a whole new rhythm to their dance.
Overcome with emotion, with her being so close to him, Jack took them down a familiar path.
Feeling the warmth of her presence invading his, the pressure between them intensified, and Jack could not hide the raging need inside him any longer.
And in a moment of pure honesty, unashamed, Jack let out a small groan.
In reaction, Jennifer did not back away as Jack’s body pressed hard against her. She held her position firmly, showing him how she ached for more of him.
The moment was surreal.
It was intense.
Jennifer could literally feel Jack’s pulse beating inside of her.
Jennifer could feel everything Jack was feeling, and in that moment, she wanted to be with him more than ever.
And reading her silent form of something that spoke beyond acceptance...
Feeling her wants and desires...
Jack finally let himself physically indulge in the moment they were sharing. Staring deeply into Jennifer’s now inviting green eyes, Jack kept his opened as he slowly came forward with purpose and tipped his mouth firmly against hers.
Marking contact with his lips, feeling Jennifer willingly part hers, encouraging him to make her his own, Jack humbly accepted. And in no time at all, he deepened his kiss. Tongue against tongue, losing ground, Jack felt Jennifer invade his mouth, and he could only imagine he was in another world; in another time and place.
Jennifer tasted like heaven.
Their kiss was sweet and sultry... full of hidden passion and longing desires, which set out a new truth... about how much they had truly missed each other.
Unable to control himself, Jack indulged in more, making it known that he wanted her, and Jennifer did the same, making it clear she wanted him.
No words were spoken between them; none were required.
Both knew the truth, and they just let themselves feel.
After their kiss ended, Jack pulled back a little, not wanting his lips too far away from hers, just in case he needed more and vice versa.
Taking a moment to internalize the beauty of Jennifer’s rose coloured cheeks, Jack let out a long breath of relief. He was finally sure of himself, and of her... and so he closed his eyes this time when he kissed her in the darkness of complete trust.
He kissed her hungrily.
She kissed him back.
Wild passion flared, yet, again.
Overjoyed, feeling Jennifer yield to his every move... both wanting more, with her wanting him, and him wanting her, getting lost in the moment was easy, and the room began to spin.
Jennifer was ready to pass out, and Jack was on the brink of no return.
He had waited so long for this, so long to be with her... it was literally killing him.
But of course he would wait.
When it came to Jennifer, Jack always waited. It was just the kind of man he was.
He was so in love with her, he could never take another.
Then, hearing his name...
“Jack,” Jennifer whispered breathlessly, finally breaking for air.
And just by the sound of her voice, Jack knew exactly what she was saying, what she needed, what she wanted, what she meant.... and he could not agree with her more.
They were dancing in a room full of people, who were now standing and staring at them.
And they both knew it was not the time, nor the place, to continue on with this highly intense, romantic, and deeply desirable mood.
Reluctant.... but only a little, Jack blew out a hot breath. He drew back and settled, holding Jennifer lightly in his arms, as he refocused on the lyrics of the song that were still playing.
Learning new truths....
Resuming what was, Jack kept in his hands firmly affixed, one hand around Jennifer’s waist and his other holding her hand against his chest.
Lost in a gaze that mesmerized him, Jack was exactly where he wanted to be.
Jennifer was close to him; their bodies touching, almost joined as one... exuding earth-shattering ramifications for the both of them.
With their eyes locked on each’s others, Jennifer could not help but grip onto Jack a little tighter... not wanting to let him go.
Enjoying their dance together...
Jack effortlessly whirled Jennifer around the dance floor, as those around them made adequate space. And as the lyrics of song were heard, they suddenly hit too close to home on a whole other level Jennifer did not expect.
But Jack did not back down from wanting to know the truth.
Following his hunch, he kept things light, as he intentionally continued to waltz them around the room.
Then, suddenly, the sound of the music felt overpowering. And Jennifer could only see Jack’s face from the short distance they were apart, as she carefully watched his mouth move.
He sang to her...
Would you laugh?
Oh please tell me this…
Now would you die
For the one you love
Hold me in your arms tonight.
Not hearing his voice, but clearly hearing the words, large tears pooled in Jennifer’s eyes.
And it was all Jack needed to see.
It was all Jack needed to know.
Accepting the truth....
Jennifer knew no matter how painful it was for the both of them, she refused to close her eyes or look away from Jack this time. She desperately wanted him to know everything that what was in her heart and in her soul was real.
And he did....
Never taking her emerald eyes off Jack’s steely blue ones, emblazoning herself into his soul, in that moment, Jack slowed down their gait.
And in an undeniable moment....
With both of their chests pumping hard, Jack simply took Jennifer’s left hand and brought it to his lips. He placed a small kiss on top of her delicate fingers, before he brought it down to rest over his heart again. He wanted her to feel its familiar beat.
Drawn to him like no other, reading him like no other.... Jennifer began to wonder if Jack knew the REAL truth.... or if he only had growing suspicions.
But again, it did not seem to matter...
The feeling of love between them surpassed everything.
Both were overcome with intense emotions, faces wet with tears, and it was Jack who sensed Jennifer’s fear of release, knowing the song would be over soon. And so he pulled her body close to his again, and let her lean against his chest, as he closed his eyes and rested his chin on top of her head... hiding his face in her golden locks.
Still ignoring the fullness of the dance floor, packed with couples swaying to the music, and those standing around to watch, in Jack’s mind, nothing or nobody was going to ruin this moment for him, for her, or for them.
It was a moment he had longed for, and one, he was certain she had longed for too.
Holding Jennifer in his arms, on a night that would surely never be forgotten, Jack placed a few gentle kisses on her forehead. He simply could not be this close to her, without trying to console her, in an effort to kiss away the undo pain he knew she experienced when he was gone and was somehow still experiencing.
And when John could see that everything appeared to be okay between Jack and Jennifer, with Kayla’s approval, he switched danced partners. Now holding Marlena in his arms, they danced, staying near to where Jack and Jennifer were dancing.
John knew how protective Marlena had become of Jack, and he knew she needed to be close, just in case something went awry.
Marlena could not help but steal glimpses of Jack and Jennifer. She had to be sure of what she was seeing, though part of her felt like an intruder, invading private moments being shared what she believed was two destined souls, while the other part of her experienced a constant wave of happiness in her heart.
Soon tears appeared in her eyes and John immediately took notice, but he didn’t say anything. Consoling her in his arms, he simply held her more tightly.
Marlena felt proud of Jack for braving the truth.... to be able to overcome his fears and face the woman he loved. With all she knew, the words of the song were ironically so perfect and so fitting, she had to wonder.
The song was incredibly romantic. It was on point; it was prefect. And listening to the lyrics... soon, more tears moistened her face, and John knew she had been truly affected.
“It’s okay Doc,” he whispered softly.
“No, it’s not okay. I am supposed to be a professional,” her voice wavered in reply.
Not accepting her response, he simply told her....
“What you are Doc, is human. It’s one of your most endearing qualities, and one of the things I love most about you.”
Marlena found it difficult to smile, but she managed.
Consoling her, John pulled her close to him and gave her a gentle kiss on the lips.
And as this happened, both closed their eyes and continued to dance.
The lyrics were extremely meaningful, provoking emotions from the both of them, as each reflected on their past, about another time and place in their own lives.
Staying lost in a moment...
The song seemed never ending.
And as the singer continued, Jennifer heard words that were never more true.
I can be your hero baby,
I can kiss away the pain,
Jack was her hero, her one true and only hero.
And here he was...
I will stand by you forever…
You can my breath away
And in that moment, Jennifer wanted nothing but to stay in Jack’s arms forever.
It was simply hard for her to feel any other way.
Both enjoying being together, dancing, as a brief instrumental interlude began to play, it was then, when Jennifer lifted her head off Jack’s chest.
She captured his eyes with her own.
Seeing Jack’s tears gone... and the window into his soul open, Jennifer could finally see a new level of relief and hope resonating inside him.
Still feeling overwhelmed by his song choice, and his offer to save her from the self-inflicted torture and pain she felt she had caused them, and they had caused each other, Jennifer questioned how Jack dared to be so selfless in wanting to save her, when she felt she should have done more to be the one to save him.
Moved by her guilt, hearing Jack’s voice sing along to the words and the music, Jennifer could not help be feel deeply affected.
She heard their true purpose, and this is when a new wave of emotion hit her.
Jennifer knew she could no longer hide from Jack or from the truth.
Would you swear that you will always be mine?
Barely holding on, ‘Yes,’ she told, easing out a shallow breath.
Or would you lie?….
Dropping her chin to her chest, Jennifer simply shook her head reply.
Would you run and hide?
‘No,’ she faintly whispered, as her hidden eyes welled with new tears.
“Never, not anymore, Jack,” she added in a shaky voice, almost losing her breath, sending Jack barreling down an emotional path he forced himself to face.
Am I in too deep? .... Have I lost my mind? .... I don't care ….You're here tonight…
‘Jack,’ was all Jennifer could say...giving him her real answers with her eyes.
Both shaking... too near to the truth, Jennifer let Jack come close to stop her tears with his cheek resting against hers... as he continued with his serenade.
I can be your hero baby…
I can kiss away the pain…..
Then, he adlibbed and whispered to her his some of his own words.
“Jennifer... please let me in... Let me help you... help me.”
Only to fall quiet as the song lyrics played on.
I will stand by you forever…
You can take my breath away…
Holding her tightly against him...
The words of the song were never so telling.
And Jennifer knew the truth.
She had been hopeful when she came here this evening, but she never expected their intimate exchanged over dinner, nor their dancing together like this. She didn’t expect any of it. Jack had already come to her rescue, weeks ago.... and she had to wonder how he did not know it.
Filled with emotion, letting out a notable sigh, the warmth of Jennifer’s breath caught on Jack’s neck. And once again, excitement rolled through his body.
Their physically closeness was what he had longed for, but he could not deny the emotional closeness he needed... and they were finally sharing.
Believing their hearts were fully exposed to each other, it was an amazing feeling Jack did not want to have end.
Jennifer felt the same. She had imagined many times before how it would be when she would see Jack again, now realizing that the time and space that had once kept them apart, was simply no longer.
Then, suddenly, all Jennifer could think about was Steve. How he was supposed to be home by now... but he wasn’t. She thought about how the threat over their lives was over. And in that moment, Jennifer wanted to tell Jack the truth of what happened... but somehow, it still did not feel like the right time; nor the right place, and once again, she could not find the words she wanted to say to him, especially, when she heard the desperation in the next verses of the song being sung.
O, I just want to hold you….
I just want to hold you….
Overcome with intense emotions....
Feeling Jack’s arms tighten around her, Jennifer was hesitant to release her insecurities.
But she did.
She surrendered herself... letting Jack take full advantage, knowing what he wanted and what he needed from her.
I am in too deep?
Have I lost my mind?
Well I don’t care you’re here tonight….
Jennifer knew Jack was at his breaking point and so was she.
She knew he was seeking more answers.... and she felt herself buckle.
She knew Jack needed to know she cared... that he was loved.
And in that moment, she tried not let him believe otherwise.
Jennifer simply held onto Jack, despite the guilt that engulfed her.
But it was too much...
Feeling her body language change...
Jack battled back by being her strength and her constant...
I can be your hero baby,
I can kiss away your pain,
Jack’s honesty was literally killing her...
I will stand by you forever…
You can take my breath away…
Fretting, Jennifer knew the truth would come out sooner than later.
And she simply wished it was now.
She wanted to tell Jack more of the truth, especially, after hearing him fall silent again, while the song played on.
I can be your hero.
I can kiss away the pain.
Then, feeling Jack drop his chin to sit just above her shoulder, each knowing the song would soon come to an end, Jennifer’s body tensed and Jack’s body followed.
Now I stand by you forever
You can take my breath away
Holding onto to one another, the moment was surreal....it was uncanny.
Then, feeling Jennifer stiffen in his arms....
Not knowing what he should do next, Jack simply stood motionless, just holding Jennifer close to him, not wanting to let go as the song finally came to a close.
You can take my breath away
I can be your hero
Then, it was over.....
And with a break in the music being announced by the DJ, Jennifer immediately signaled her now, unwilling, and unwanted desire... hating herself for doing it.
Feeling more than just her body pulling away, Jack stepped back and stared at her.
And against everything inside herself, Jennifer firmly tugged her hand from out of Jack’s suddenly loosening grip.
It was a painful moment for the both of them.
Not quite realizing what was...
It was an unknown, undesired gesture, but an obvious one, it told Jack, Jennifer wished to be free.
And as Jennifer reluctantly stepped away, putting more distance between them, Jack’s heart began to ache from a pain greater then he had ever known.
Unsure what was happening....
Stunned by her actions, Jack looked at Jennifer, disturbed to see an unknown fear of uncertainty suddenly cast in her eyes.
And in an awkward moment, standing on the dance floor without any music playing, free of Jennifer’s touch, Jack felt naked; he felt bare, as his heart jumped in his chest.
Jack desperately wanted to scream to the higher powers that be... not to take her away, that he did not want her to go, but the lump in his throat was simply too big, and no words would come out.
Moving away from him ever so slowly, Jennifer was still physically close enough for Jack to feel heat radiating wildly between their bodies, he desperately took comfort in that.
It was all he could onto.
And with nothing left for him to do....
But peer into Jennifer’s now sad looking, green eyes, with a new pain that glossed over his own, Jack suddenly found himself silently pleading with her to stay.
But to no avail, Jennifer gave him one, last, hard look.
Her eyes brimmed full of tears, before she turned her body away... in what Jack assumed was her final act.
He stood in shocked.
And confusion engulfed his entire being.
Maybe this was just a dream, his told himself, not sure what was really happening.
Only to hear the voice inside his head, rear its head and yelled at him, ‘This is real, Jack! Jennifer is real!’
Then, to his surprise, his prayers were answered.
It was as if Jennifer heard the voice... his other voice.
She turned and looked back at Jack.
He watched as her chin rose up from her chest.
With no words, Jennifer gave Jack her most honest look, and in that moment, Jack swore he saw what he had seen earlier... hope. He saw ‘hope’ in her eyes again, and he prayed that this dream, or whatever it was had been real.
Jennifer stood quietly, saying nothing for longer than she should have.
And Jack’s nerves quickly revisited him, as new beads of sweat came to sit on his brow.
He was terrified of what would happen next.
Still watching her...
Swallowing hard, Jennifer’s chest heaved heavily under her dress.
Cautiously, she stepped forward, and came to stand in Jack’s personal space again.
Close enough, but not touching, she rose up on the tips of her toes.
She came in close. Close to Jack’s face when she spoke to him, eye to eye, and in the softest of voices... barely audible, with all the noise of the party goers around them.
It was time, she reminded her herself, bravely defying the notion of WHAT WORDS COULD NOT SAY... to make things right again, to make things real again, by telling Jack the god forsaken, honest to goodness truth.
Holding his tongue, Jack waited for a sign, for something, for anything she would have to offer him.
And finally, Jennifer knew the words she had wanted to say. She knew these particular words were meant for Jack’s ears; words she knew only he would understand.
Closing the distance between them even more than before, Jennifer solidly looked at Jack, despite feeling severe apprehension that he would not feel the same way about her when he would finally learn the truth.
Swallowing hard... Jennifer still hated that fact, but in that moment, it did not matter.
She could not leave him... not like this.
Staying close, Jack eyes never left hers, as they encouraged her to feel he was feeling; what was real between them.
And she did.
Seeing this, and feeling this, Jennifer’s face flushed a deep red, as she nervously licked her dry lips. Moistening them before she spoke, she prayed Jack would understand the meaning of what she had to tell him.
Not wasting another minute, Jennifer eased out a long breath to steady herself, before Jack finally heard her soft, sweet, voice.
‘Jack,’ she started, then, she stopped to recite the following;
‘My bounty is as boundless as the sea,
My love as deep; the more I give to thee
The more I have, for both are infinite.’
(Shakespeare; Romeo and Juliet, Act 2, Scene 2)
Jack blinked hard trying to process the words of the verse Jennifer had just spoken.... relating it to what he knew.... associating the words to one of the greatest play writes....
Then, it clicked....
Overcome with high emotion by the sentiment of what had just been said, old memories resurrected themselves in Jack’s head, and in his heart, from another time and place in their history, when their relationship was in another volatile state.
Then, suddenly, Jack realized the truth of the past... was the truth of the present.
And this made Jack react.
Things suddenly felt familiar.
Excited, his breathing labored in his chest.
Jack smiled as he poised himself to respond, knowing he could not be wrong.
And with new confidence emerging from inside, he looked deeply in Jennifer’s eyes, and teasingly replied,
‘O blessed, blessed night! I am afeard.
Being in night, all this is but a dream,
Too flattering-sweet to be substantial.’
In reaction, Jennifer could not stop herself from shyly smiling back at Jack, before she dropped her head, to hide her eyes from him again.
Realizing what was....
Jack watched intently, as Jennifer stood down from her tippy toes, to the level of her of her ruby red heels. He saw her sway a little, and he immediately held out his arm to help steady her... and she let him, knowing full well the old emotions they had just stirred in each other.
They were anything but eclectic.
And then, with what little strength she had left, Jennifer flashed her eyes back up at Jack and she whispered, “It wasn’t a dream, Jack. I am real. You are real. And most importantly, my love is real.”
Trying to process this...
Before he could find his tongue, Jennifer had already turned away.
She was leaving, headed on her way towards the exit of the grand ballroom.
Jack simply watched her with hard eyes.
Jennifer never looked back.
She couldn’t.... but it did not matter, because in her heart, she knew Jack finally new the truth; that she still loved him.
And feeling a thousand pair of eyes upon her... Jennifer simply ignored them.
She kept a steady pace.
She did not walk too fast or too slow, but held her head high.
She was not ashamed.
She was not arrogant...
She was Jennifer Rose.
Gone from his arms, but not from his heart, Jack did not have to wonder or worry anymore. He had finally received the truth to the answer had been searching for.
And clearing his throat to reset his mind to its current location, Jack dropped his head and smirked. He wondered where exactly Jennifer was going. He did not know if he should follow her out or if he should simply let her alone to digest the incredibly intimate moments they had just shared together.
Letting her go was not easy... but he did.
Feeling strange, yet, feeling confident, in the next moment, a huge wave of relief washed over him, and somehow, nothing else seemed to matter.
Ignoring the chattering coming from the surprised crowd of people scattered around the ballroom.... Jack told himself, if Jennifer needs more time, I’ll give it to her.
Accepting what was...
Knowing what he felt had been real, in that instant, a feeling of something significant quaked deep inside him, and it told Jack that one day soon, they would be together again.
Feeling at ease....
Smiling as he quoted the words of Shakespeare in his head... the ones Jennifer just had spoken to him, Jack knew ‘their love was endless and that it was infinite.’ And he accepted the idea that this was simply not the right place, nor the right time, but soon, he was certain she would come to him, and soon, they would be reunited, if he did not find her first.
But once again, Jack told himself, he would wait.
He had already waited this long, and he would wait more if he had too.
I will wait for you forever, if I have too... the voice inside Jack’s mind slipped in to remind him, as he shook his head, remembering more of their past together... unable to contain a smile that spread from ear to ear; as it flashed across his face.
Then, letting out a breath he did not know he was holding, Jack simply stood and watched Jennifer’s exit from the ballroom. Narrowing his eyes, he watched until she was a nothing but a mere shadow, one, he could no longer make a silhouette of.
And when she had finally disappeared completely from his view, Jack simply turned around and headed back toward his table.
